The Texas Roadrunners Band started in 1999 when Daryl Cloud, Triva Black (Fred) on bass and Rita Killen on piano got together to play a gig at the V.F.W. Hall in Conroe. Soon after that, Ray Armstrong (on drums), Ben Ellisor (on lead guitar) and John Musachia (on fiddle), came on board. Later on, John Goodman joined the band playing lead guitar along with Jimmy Johnson On bass. The sound was as true as traditional country could get. Everything from Merle Haggard and Bob Wills, to George Strait. Two steps, waltzes and good old belt polishing dance music. Our goal is to keep people on the dance floor, with good old fried taters, pinto beans and cornbread traditional country music.
In 2002 the band produced a CD called "NO PLACE FOR A COWBOY"
The bulk of the cuts are originals, written by Daryl. The title track is an outstanding original that laments the passing of the "cowboy" culture that Texas enjoyed for so long, lost now to most of us.
The mixture of the band today is as interesting as their mix of music.
Two Houston Fire Fighters (John and Daryl) a pilot for a major Airlines (Matt "Tex" Peterson on lead guitar), a manager for U.S. Food Services
(Ralph Kresge on bass and vocal harmonies) a welder for Haliburton (Ray Armstrong on drums), a Lineman for Center Point (Tom Clements on steel guitar) and a computer Business owner (Jamie Flores on Sax.) A seven piece band, which is almost unheard of in today's local music market.
The bands music today, still holds true to the traditional favorites, spiked with a mixture of Texas roadhouse songs from Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Billy Joe Shaver to top forty tunes from Kenny Chesney and Toby Keith, with a little blues and rock in roll thrown in. Our crowds like country dance music, from nine to ninety they eat it up and always have a good time.
The days of innocence, when back roads of my memory found the path back to being a little boy again. No pretentiousness, just let it be what it is. True to the principle of honesty.
